Soreil as it appeared in the times of planet Ra Ciela.

Colony Ship Soreil (航宙移民船ソレイル, kouchii imin fune soreiru?) is the name of the massive space ship that serves as the setting for the ninth and tenth chapters of Ciel nosurge: Ushinawareta Hoshi e Sasagu Uta, and to the entirety of Ar nosurge: Ode to an Unborn Star. It is a ship designed to carry off a large part of the population from Ra Ciela and ferry it to another inhabitable planet.

History

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow. (Skip section)

Origin

This massive spacecraft was developed and built by the Chimon several years prior to the start of Ciel nosurge in what they called Project Ark, as back then the Tenmon was just a part of it, and this was the first method they came up with to try to save the people of Ra Ciela from the threat of Bezel becoming a Red Giant that at some point would swallow the planet.

Soreil was completed after a lot of hard work, but given no other suitable planets that could sustain the life from Ra Ciela were found, both the Tenmon subgroup and the rest of Chimon ended up arguing about trying to seek anoother planet or going along with their Save Bezel Project, so in the end the Tenmon split off from the Chimon and became their own organization.

Over ten years passed, and Soreil was kept hidden from the public due to its importance in the Tenmon's Grand Phoenix Project, as well as being the location of the new Genomirai Laboratories after the former research institute was destroyed in the Genomirai Pandemic. The Tenmon also began using it as a sort of concentration camp to re-educate the populace and members of the organization that didn't agree with the practices its leader, Revelt, and PLASMA were taking, which was disguised as the hyper-popular amusement park Palace Nyurokiel.

(more coming later on...)

Spoilers end here.

Geography

Soreil is large enough to lodge a great amount of people, and while it's formed by several layers of metal, making it unfit to sustain life over a long period of time, the people managed to create some cultivated fields and areas where they could produce food after a long time and lots of effort. However, it must be said that it's divided in an unequal manner: the inner areas of the ship, Orei, are where most of the humans live, unable to see anything beyond the metal walls and roof, while on the outer ones, the Sharls have established a faux planet of sorts with hills, mountains and large fields called Sharanohiar. Therefore, the inhabitants of Sharanohiar can enjoy a better environment and a more peaceful life, while the ones living in Orei are always fighting against the Sharls or the Genomirai Church that supports them, making it more like surviving than living.
