Maiden of Mio

The Maiden of Mio (澪の御子, mio no miko^?, lit. "Maiden of Wake"), mistranslated as Maiden of Aqua, and also known as the Maiden Honored with the Seed of Love (愛の種子賜りし御子, ai no shushi tamawarishi miko^?), or Seed of Love Maiden, is the title given to one of the two Maidens of Metafalss. However, few people in the current Metafalss know of this Maiden's existence, and furthermore, some of the people who currently know it instead refer to this title derisively as the Maiden of Calamity (災いの御子, wazawai no miko^?) and the Maiden of Taboo (禁忌の御子, kinki no miko^?).

Summary

The Maiden of Mio is the political name given by the Grand Bell to the person who is officially known as the Infel Phira Queen (インフェル・ピラクイーン, inferu pira kuiin^?). Therefore, it is the title bestowed to the IPD Reyvateil who holds the administrative rights over Infel Phira, allowing her to access its most powerful functions, the most important of which is uniting the feelings of all the IPD Reyvateils into a single virtual singer and redirect the effects of EXEC_METAFALICA for the creation of the Heart of the Land to Infel Phira.

Due to her instrumental role in the creation of Metafalica, the Maiden of Mio was established by the Grand Bell to have the same degree of importance as the Maiden of Homura, who has Frelia's D-Cellophane Installed into her, granting her the ability to Sing EXEC_METAFALICA/.. Together, both Maidens are to undergo the trials of the Infelsphere in order to forge the bonds needed for them to synchronize with each other in order to successfully sing the complete Metafalica.

However, after the first attempt at creating Metafalica in 3313 AD failed, the First War Against the Goddess took place, and it was brought to a close with the signing the Treaty of Hibernation, the Maiden of Mio position itself became a taboo and it was banned within the Grand Bell, all records of her existence destroyed or erased, until Alfman reinstated the position as a figurehead for his own War Against the Goddess.

Nowadays, the Maiden of Mio has regained the reputation she used to have in the early 3300s, and it is likely she will continue sharing the position as the most important politician in Metafalss with the Maiden of Homura for the foreseeable future.

Enthroning

Only an IPD of the highest Potential Level, or IPD Level: Level 9, is capable of becoming the Maiden of Mio, as this position requires a perfect natural synchronization with Infel Phira in order to be able to perform the Installs and physical hardwiring, or special bus unlocking, the Maiden of Mio requires to be able to administrate Infel Phira. Any IPD who attempts to undergo this process without having this level of synchronization will just end up with her Soulspace destroyed and cerebral death. This was part of the reason why this process was not carried out anymore after Infel's time, beyond the position itself having been made taboo by the Grand Bell.

Once the Installs and physical hardwiring are complete, the next step is carrying out the Baptism of Mio (澪の洗礼, mio no senrei^?), also known as Queen Registration (クイーン登録, kuiin touroku^?), which consists of Singing a Hymmnos Extract developed exclusively for this process by Infel Phira's original creator and designer, Professor Grammul. This Hymmnos Extract is called METHOD_ALTERNATION/., and while Singing it, the candidate to Infel Phira Queen will converse with the will of her predecessor in order to ascertain whether she is worthy of becoming the new Infel Phira Queen. If the previous Queen deems her worthy, the process will end in success, but if she is deemed unworthy, the process will end in failure.

The Baptism of Mio has historically only ever been performed once for the sucession from Infel to Cloche Leythal Pastalie, with the final result for it being a success.

Number of Maidens of Mio

Historically, there have only been two Maidens of Mio in existence. The first one is Infel, which was additionally the leader of the Infel Phira Project after Professor Grammul was fried from it, and the second and current one is Cloche. While both pairs were able to complete the Infelsphere alongside their counterpart Maidens of Homura, Nenesha and Luca Trulywaath respectively, Infel and Nenesha's attempt to create Metafalica was unsuccessful, causing Nenesha to be killed as the energy was taken from the Goddess. It was not until A.D. 3774 that Cloche and Luca were able to successfully create Metafalica, with Infel reluctantly but irreplaceably pushing Cloche to make it a success.

Trivia

Although the official translation name may it make seem like the Mio title translates to water, the proper translation for Mio is waterway, or as stated by Akira Tsuchiya himself in the liner notes for the image song for this position, Waterway~MIO, the intended meaning is wake, as in the waves and contrails left behind by a ship as it traverses the sea or the sky. This is in reference to how the Maiden of Mio is supposed to serve as the person who leads and pushes Metafalss toward a brighter future.
