Ritual Prayer Dedicated to the Succession Ceremony
This Song serves as the closing theme for the second-to-last chapter of Ciel nosurge: Ushinawareta Hoshi e Sasagu Uta.
It is a Song that has been transmitted since time immemorial in Ra Ciela, having as its purpose being used during the Imperial Succession Ceremony following the conclusion of the three years of Imperial Trials to remove the current Empress from her position and crown the Imperial Princess that got the most votes during the Trials as her successor. Additionally, both the Princess and the Empress will exchange something that looks like a mouth-to-mouth kiss right as this Song ends, which will pass on the Imperial Vocal Cords from the previous to the current Empress.
However, this Song's origin actually goes far back to before the current Empire existed, back then when the Empress was merely a High Priestess at the service of Ra Ciela's Wills of the Planet. As the leader of the only religion that existed in this Planet, she was to be succeeded when a new High Priestess came, which would then be introduced before the Wills of the Planet and judged by them using this Song: this Song is in fact Sung by a loved one of the prospective new High Priestess, one that would willingly give up their life for the sake of the candidate; and as long as the Song is being Sung, the Singer acts as a medium that will serve as the conduit through which the feelings of the Wills of the Planet are transmitted.
This is possible because the Wills of the Planet decrease their H-Wave frequency for the duration of this Song in order to judge the prospective High Priestess: if she is suitable for this important role, the Wills will give their approval and congratulations, but otherwise, the ceremony will end in failure.
Additionally, this is a considerable honor to the Singer, to the point that some of the people that took part in this irreplaceable role stated it was a life-changing experience to have their Gods, the Wills of the Planet share their minds with them, despite that being the case for only a few minutes. None of this changed when the High Priestess assumed the role of Empress of the final country that remained in Ra Ciela, so this Song continued being the way through which their powers and authority were passed down from a generation to another.[1][2]
As Kanon perished during the course of the Imperial Trials due to Revelt's machinations, and said machinations also caused the planet's crust and mantle to be gouged out and left in an extremely unstable state, to the point in which it would break apart in either a few days or months, the current Empress called off the Imperial Trials and decided to carry out the Succession Ceremony right away, naming Ion as her successor.
Ion decided on having Renall be the one that would sing this Song, as she was both like an older sister and a mother to her, and so the ceremony was carried out. As Renall Sang, Ion remembered all the friends, acquaintances and enemies she met in Ra Ciela during the course of the Trials, and decided to do her best to save the people that called this doomed world their home. Then, she both and the Empress exchanged the ceremonial kiss and she received the Imperial Vocal Cords, making her into the latest and final Empress Ra Ciela would ever have.
